CASEY DIES AT SEASHORE Popular Railroad Police Sergeant Was Known by School Children Throughout County Because of Safety Work. William V. Casey, sergeant in the police department of the Middle division of the Pennsylvania railroad and residing at 1114 Fourteenth avenue, died at 9:15 o'clock on Wednesday night at Atlantic City, N.J. of a complication of diseases, after an illness of several months. He had gone east about a month ago in the hope of being benefited in health, but his condition failed to improve. Sergeant Casey was born in Wilmington, Del., April 20, 1885, and he entered the railroad service as a patrolman on the Middle division on Nov. 3, 1909. He resigned on Sept. 19, 1912, and reentered the service on Dec. 16, 1912, remaining in the service until his death. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant on May 1, 1920. He was well known by the school children throughout Altoona and the county at large because of his work in connection with the safety campaign. During the two preceding school terms he was assigned by the railroad company to take charge of the work of carrying the message of safety to the school pupils and as a result he spoke in all the schools in the city and county. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Robert, William and Richard. A brother, Michael P. Casey, who was also a railroad police officer, died in this city last December, while another brother preceded him to the grave several years ago. A sister residing at Ardmore survives. The body has been taken to her home and the funeral will be held there Saturday morning. He was a member of the Catholic church. A number of the Middle division police officers under Captain J. W.
