He laid out the town of Newry, naming it after the town of his birth in Ireland. The Cassidy family have been among the best people of the town in all the intervening years, always taking a prominent part in all that concerned the welfare and building up of the town. Captain Francis Cassidy, a grandson of Patrick Cassidy, a veteran of the Civil war, and an uncle of the deceased, was the first burgess of the town and for many years a teacher in the public schools, and stood in the front ranks of the educators of the county. The deceased lady was a consistent member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, and was faithful in all her religious duties, always ready to extend a helping hand to the poor and needy, not only to those of her own faith. All who needed help and encouragement always found in her a true friend, no matter to what religious denomination they belonged. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. John Mulligan, of Braddock; Mrs. Neil Beigle, of Renovo; Thad Cassidy, of Wilmerding; Mrs. C. H. Hodge and Edward Cassidy, of Newry.
