All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Long Illness Proves Fatal to Contractor Peter Shunk Cassidy, 77, of 3032 Broad avenue, long engaged in building construction in the city, died at 5.50 o'clock this morning in the Altoona hospital where he had been a patient since Aug. 21. Mr. Cassidy had been in failing health for several years. He was also active in the Masonic organization, holding membership in Hiram lodge, 616, F. & A.M., Mountain council 9, Mountain Royal Arch chapter 189, Mountain commandery 10, Knights Templar; Williamsport consistory, Jaffa Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters. Mr. Cassidy was believed to be the last surviving of the numerous contractors who engaged in the construction of the Jaffa mosque. He was also the last member of his immediate family. He was a member of the Broad Avenue Presbyterian church, serving for many years as a member of the board of trustees, a member of the Penn-Alto hotel board of directors and for many years was active in the local building and loan associations as a director. Mr. Cassidy was born in Altoona Nov. 17, 1875, a son of William and Ann (Shaw) Cassidy, and had resided in the city all his life. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary (Caum) Graham Cassidy, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
