Richard Chamberlain Charles Richard "Dick" Chamberlain, 412 Culpepper Road, Lexington, Ky., died at about midnight Monday in Lexington following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 6, 1901, in Tyrone, the eldest son of James Earl and Hermie (McCans) Chamberlain. He was married in May, 1930, at St. Joseph Church, Portage, to the former Anne White, who died Dec. 31, 1953. He was married in April, 1956 in Pittsburgh to the former Betty Miller, who died in 1965. Surviving are six sons and daughters to the first marriage: Dr. Charles Richard Chamberlain Jr., Augusta, Ga.; Robert L. Chamberlain, Washington D.C.; Patricia Roach, Knoxville, Tenn.; Mary C. Wagoner, Lexington, Ky.; Stephanie Barnett, Augusta, Ga.; Thaddea Kopser, Lexington, Ky. Sixteen grandchildren survive as do two brothers and two sisters: John C. Chamberlain, Tyrone; Janet Chamberlain, Pittsburgh; J. Max Chamberlain, Havertown; Alice Nelson, Franconia, N.H. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Lexington, Ky. He was a past grand knight of St. Gregory Council 1218, Knights of Columbus, Tyrone. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus with over 50 years of membership. He was a fourth degree member of the organization. After moving to Lynchburg, Va., he moved up through the ranks to become Virginia state deputy of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Donovan Scholar Program of the University of Kentucky. He retired from Westvaco after 44 years of service. He was first employed at the Tyrone mill in the wood office and later was transferred from Tyrone to the main office in New York City. From New York, he was moved to Lynchburg, Va., where he worked as head of the wood purchasing office. From Lynchburg he was transferred to Covington, Va., where he worked in wood purchasing until the time of his retirement. He was presented with the Umbrella Award from the Blue Grass Mental Retardation Board in 1973. In 1975, he received a plaque for outstanding contribution to the Kentucky Alcoholism Council. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program named him "number-one" volunteer for 1977, and he was named "Mr. Senior Citizen" of Lexington, Ky. that same year for his service to the Comprehensive Care Center. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Lexington. The Rev. Robert Wehage will officiate. Interment will be made in Lynchburg, Va. Saturday. Friends will be received at the Milward Funeral.
