Following a lengthy illness, Mrs. Elizabeth McCauley Cherry, wife of Patrolman A. A. Cherry, of 212 Howard avenue, Altoona, and daughter of John and Mary McCauley, deceased, died at her home Tuesday night at 10.15 o'clock. She was one of the best known and most highly esteemd residents of the Seventh ward. Mrs. Cherry was born in Antis township on January 27, 1853, about one and a half miles west of Bellwood. She was united in marriage to A. A. Cherry on April 27, 1871, by the Rev. J. H. Mathers, D.D., now deceased, of Bellwood. After spending the first eleven years of their wedded life on the Cherry farm near Bellwood, Mr. and Mrs. Cherry took up their residence in Altoona thirty-three years ago. They located in the Seventh ward, where they have since resided. When quite young, Mrs. Cherry became a member of the Lutheran church, and was a faithful and consistent member and worker for that denomination throughout her entire life. She was a member of the Fourth Lutheran church of Altoona, and was a Christian woman, possessing a beautiful character, exemplified in both words and deeds of kindness. She will be sadly missed in the community. Mrs. Cherry is survived by her husband and these brothers and sisters: John McCauley, of Tyrone; Martin McCauley, of Derry; Harry, of Altoona; Mrs. Edith Weaver, of Altoona and Mrs. John Cherry, of Tipton, and Mrs. Ruth Cherry of Bellwood, the latter two being half-sisters.
