Cherry, 98, of Tipton, Tyrone RD5, died Tuesday morning, January 11, 2005 at her home. She was born March 8, 1906 in Altoona, a daughter to the late Robert M. and Rachel Claire (Cherry) Johnson. She married Harvey F. Cherry on June 28, 1922 in Cumberland, MD. He died December 5, 1987. Mrs. Cherry is survived by a daughter F. Eldean Hirt, with whom she resided; grandchildren, John Hirt and Connie James, both of Tipton and Anita Iulg in Florida; five great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren; a sister E. Catherine Dickson of Tipton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Smith; stepson, Dale Reed; great-grandson, Jason Hirt and brothers, Robert John and Charles Johnson. Mrs. Cherry was a descendant of the Civil War. She was a member of the Tipton Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Mrs. Cherry enjoyed crocheting and making things for other people. She loved to read and sing and enjoyed attending church. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, January 13 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2005 at the funeral home by Pastor David Ervine. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Rachel's memory may be made to the Tipton Baptist Church. Tyrone Daily Herald, January 12, 2005
