Yesterday morning Dr. William S. Cherry, who has not of late been practicing the profession of dentistry, but has been employed by Elias Griffith as salesman in his grocery, at the corner of Ninth street and Green avenue, opened the store as usual about 7:30 o'clock and went to his rooms over the store for breakfast. Immediately after eating a hearty meal he lay down and fell asleep. His wife did not at first notice his condition, but after several unsuccessful attempts to waken her husband she became alarmed and summoned assistance. When help arrived it was thought proper to send for a physician, and Dr. Ross, Jr., was summoned. Every endeavor known to the profession was put forth for the purpose of rallying Dr. Cherry from his condition without avail. Other prominent physicians were called in consultation, but the united efforts of the medical fraternity proved powerless in assisting the patient, and at 3 o'clock he died. Dr. William S. Cherry was well known in this city, and, owing to many fine qualities of head and heart, had numerous friends, who will mourn his sad and early death. Dr. Cherry was 32 years of age on February 15 last, and leaves a wife and we think one child to mourn his loss. His funeral will occur to-morrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. The interment will be made in Fairview Cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, June 1, 1881 1880 Altoona, Blair County census - Samuel Gathers, 56 Margret M. Gathers, 48 Harry G.
