Chestney of 1527 Fourth avenue, Juniata, received injuries which resulted in his death at 11.22 o'clock at the Altoona hospital. The child's skull was fractured. Mr. and Mrs. Chestney, with their little son and another lady, had come to the city on a street car to visit friends. They had alighted from the car at Third street, when Mr. Penny came along on his car, in company with Mr. Grayville and his son. He stopped until the street car started, and then he started. The members of the Chestney party stood where they had alighted and apparently became confused. The two women then started and got safely across ahead of the machine, but Mr. Chestney, who was leading his son, stepped backwards again. Mr. Chestney was struck by the front of the car but was not knocked down, while the little boy disappeared under the machine. Penny stopped quickly and the boy was found lying under the car between the front and rear wheels, with blood gushing from his mouth and nose. He was placed on the Penny machine and Assistant Fire Chief H. C. Graybill, who came along, drove the boy to the hospital. The grip was made in five minutes, but examination revealed that the child's head had been run over by a front wheel of the automobile, the marks of the tread being plainly visible from the chin to the forehead, and his skull was fractured. His death occurred within five minutes after reaching the hospital. Penny went to City hall and reported the accident and, when it was ascertained that the child was dead, Deputy Coroner Chester C. Rothrock was notified and made an investigation of the boy's death. James Robert Chestney was born in Juniata on Dec. 18, 1916, and besides the parents is survived by one brother, Donald, aged 9 months. The father is employed by the Pennsylvania railroad as a car marker at WJ tower. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence in charge of Rev. Walter G. Steel, pastor of the East Juniata Methodist church. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, September 9, 1919
