Miss Elsie Clabaugh, better known as one of the Carlisle sisters, died in Cleveland, O., Thursday noon, from shock resulting from a narrow escape from drowning. The deceased was an actress by profession. She and her sister, Miss Lillian, traveled together under the stage name of the "Carlisle Sisters." Their company had been playing during the present week in Cleveland. About noon on Thursday the members of the company went to Euclid beach to bathe. About nine of them clambered on a raft, which upset in deep water. Both Miss Lillian and Miss Elsie had gone down twice before they were rescued. A few minutes after Miss Elsie was taken from the water she died on the beach from heart failure. The deceased was a young lady of exceptional talent and, with her sister, had already risen high in her profession. She was aged 20 years. Besides her sister already mentioned she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mary Clabaugh. The body was taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Geesey, 327 Crawford avenue. The body was brought to Altoona on eastern express last night and removed to the residence of the grand parents, from whence the funeral will proceed to the Second United Brethren church on Sunday morning, and where services will be held at half-past 10 o'clock. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Saturday, July 9, 1898
