Clapper, aged 82, a retired farmer, residing at the home of Mrs. Jessie Beauchamp of 706 East First avenue, expired suddenly at 11.30 o'clock this morning, after visiting at a neighbor's home en route to a visit to the city business district. Mr. Clapper complained of a shortness of breath and he stopped at the home of William F. Amerine of Wilson street, near Hagerty's extension on Gamble Hill, and inquired as to what would relieve his condition. As he was engaged in conversation with the Amerine family, he fell over. Coroner Daniel M. Replogle was called and pronounced death due to a heart attack. Joseph Hoover Clapper was born in Turkey valley, Jan. 1, 1862, and he followed farming all his life in Turkey valley, retiring seven years ago when he came to Altoona to live. His wife, the former Miss Cecelia Agnes Rhodes died seven years ago. Surviving are a son, Calvin Clapper of Canoe Creek, a brother Irvin Clapper of South Lakemont and two sisters, Mrs. Dean Brim of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Alice Mattern of Frankstown.
