(CLAPPER), 1989 Amy K. CLAPPER Mrs. Amy K. Clapper, 76, 170 Red Fox Drive, Duncansville, died Saturday morning, Feb. 20, 1999, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Tower City, the daughter of the late Glacie and Annie Sara Elle (Rowe) Keiter. She married Paul E. Clapper July 29, 1947, in Winchester, Va. He died Aug. 30, 1971. Mrs. Clapper was a member of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Katherine vonBora Sunday school class. She retired as an elementary school teacher from Hollidaysburg Area School District in January 1987, after 32 years service. Mrs. Clapper was a 1941 graduate of Tower City High School and a 1945 graduate of Shippensburg University, with a degree in business education. She also attended classes at Penn State Altoona. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework. Mrs. Clapper was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Hollidaysburg Area Education Association. Surviving are two daughters: Paula Wyant and Charlotte Weyant, both of Duncansville; a son, Richard of Hollidaysburg; a sister, Gladys Masterson of Elizabethville; two brothers: John of Manheim and Blair in Florida; and six grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. Tuesday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., Duncansville. CLAPPER - Funeral services for Mrs. Amy K. Clapper of 170 Red Fox Drive, Duncansville, will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday in the chapel of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. William O. Gafkjen and Father Edward Eckenrod. Interment in Carson Valley Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. Tuesday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., Duncansville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona Public Library, 1600 Fifth Ave., Altoona, Pa., 16602. Mrs. Clapper loved her grandchildren. She is survived by grandchildren: Denise and Debbie Wyant, Matthew and Tom Weyant and Nicole and Heather Clapper. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Albert; and a sister Ruth. ________ Clare M. CLAPPER February 5, 1936 Of 309 Shelly avenue, Llyswen, died at his home at 1.50 o'clock this morning of pneumonia after a short illness. He was born in the city on July 14, 1886, a son of Sylvester R. and Margaret J. (Stiffler) Clapper, and on April 8, 1909, was united in marriage with Miss Gladys Shuff, who preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Gladys G. Clapper, at home, his mother, Mrs. Margaret Clapper, and the following brothers and sisters: Harvey E. Clapper, Mrs. Cora E. Miller, Earl D., Ralph A., Nelson F., Clifford E., Clapper, Mrs. Ethel I. Lilly and Ross E. Clapper, all of the city. Mr. Clapper was employed in the boiler department of the Altoona machine shops. The body may be viewed at the Lafferty funeral home where funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning with Rev. Luke H. Rhoads officiating. Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery. ________ David B. CLAPPER Altoona Mirror March 9, 1989 Brethren minister dies at 82 David B. Clapper, 82, of 40 Sylvan Drive, Hollidaysburg, died at 4:54 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 1989, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after a brief illness. Known as Baldy, Mr. Clapper retired as an electrician from the Penn Central in 1972, with 49 years' service, and was secretary-treasurer of Allegheny Township. He was ordained to the ministry on June 9, 1956, and served the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, Amaranth Church of the Brethren, Hancock, Md., and a variety of other churches. He was born Jan. 29, 1907, in Duncansville, the son of Samuel R. and Mary E. Clapper, and on June 23, 1933 married Mary E. Hoover. Surviving are his wife, four sons: D. Robert at home, Alton P. of Hollidaysburg, Donald L. of Chambersburg, and Harold C. of Hollidaysburg; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Edna Langham of Hollidaysburg. Mr. Clapper was a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren for 58 years. CLAPPER Altoona Tribune April 8, 1954 Of Carson Valley, Duncansville, R. D., died at 11:45 p. m. Tuesday at the Altoona Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born at Carson Valley Mar. 12, 1896, a son of Samuel R. and Mary Ellen (Hoover) Clapper . An employee of the paint shop, Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona, Mr. Clapper was a veteran of the 83rd infantry division, serving in France in World War I, and a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Thelma (Brubaker) Clapper; the following children: Blaine S. and Mrs. Ernest Jones of Carson Valley, Clair M., Lista, Paul D., and Patricia J., at home, James L. of Denver Colo., Boyd C., with the Army in Georgia, and Gean T. with the Air Force at Columbus, O.; the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Chester Hoover, Mrs. Emory Langham, and Russell C. of Cross Keys, Mrs. Clarence Shiffler of New Castle, Mrs. Eli Walters of Duncansville, Mrs. Colvin Miller of Roaring Spring and Rev. David Clapper of Lakemont, and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Laughlin Funeral Home. ________ John V. CLAPPER Altoona Mirror December 4, 1937 Death of Child John V. Clapper, infant son of James and Thelma M. (Brubaker) Clapper of Carson Valley, died of pleuro-pneumonia at 8:30 o'clock Saturday night in Mercy Hospital where he was admitted on Friday night. The child was born on Sept. 2, of this year, in Carson Valley. Surviving are his parents, seven brothers and sisters, Blaine, James, Thelma, Boyd, Gene, Clair, and Lista, all at home. CLAPPER Altoona Mirror August 31, 1971 of 316 7th St., Duncansville, died unexpectedly at 8:20 p. m. yesterday, August 30, 1971, in Oakland VA Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Altoona on Feb. 16, 1912, a son of Harvey E. and Alleene (Krider) Clapper, and July 29, 1947, in Winchester, Va., married Amy Keiter. Surviving are his wife, three children, Mrs. Paula Wyant of Duncansville, Mrs. Charlotte Weyandt of Shippensburg and Richard, at home; his mother, and a sister, Mrs. Virginia Trostle of Duncansville. Mr. Clapper was a member of the Duncansville Lutheran Church and a veteran of Army service in World War II. He retired from the Logan Valley company maintenance department and earlier had been employed by the crane company and Blue & White bus company. Friends will be received in the Liebegott Funeral Home, Duncansville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. ________ Russell C. CLAPPER Altoona Mirror July 23, 1980 Correspondent Dies Russell C. Clapper, 70, of Box 208, Duncansville RD 1, Cross Keys, a newspaper correspondent for the Altoona Mirror and Blair Press, died unexpectedly at 3 p. m. Tuesday, July 22, 1980, in his home. Mr. Clapper retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and Lafferty Trucking Co. He was the Cross Keys correspondent for the newspapers. He was born Aug. 29, 1909, in Carson Valley, the son of Samuel R. and Mary E. (Hoover) Clapper, and on June 15, 1934, in Chicago, Ill., married Edith M. Helsel, who died April 26, 1974. Surviving are two children, Glen A. of Duncansville RD1 and Mrs. Nada Yeckley of Coatsville RD3; four grandchildren and three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Sarah Walters of Duncansville, Mrs. Edna Langham and Ruth Hoover of Duncansville RD1 and David B. of Hollidaysburg RD1. Mr. Clapper was a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, where he was a life-time deacon, Sunday School superintendent and janitor. He was an assessor for Allegheny Township. He was county chairman for the heart association and a board member of the March of Dimes. He was a board member of fund-raising for Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults. He was a Blair County Republican committeeman and a member of the Jolly 60s and Hollidaysburg Community Farm Show Association. CLAPPER Altoona Mirror May 10, 1941 A lifelong resident of Carson Valley and the last survivor of the group assembled more than sixty-five years ago when Carson Valley received its present name, died at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of a son Russell C. Clapper, at 500 First Avenue, Duncansville, where he had been bedfast for one week. Death was attributed to multiple ailments. He was born in Carson Valley on May 3, 1864, a son of George and Elizabeth (Hart) Clapper. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ellen Hoover on Sept. 22, 1888, who preceded him in death twenty-four years ago. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Esther Shiffler of New Caslte, Mrs. Leora Miller of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Sarah Walters, Mrs. Edna Langham and Russell Clapper, all of Duncansville, James Clapper and David Clapper of Carson Valley and Mrs. Ruth Hoover of Cross Keys. Three daughters predeceased him. He is also survived by an 82-year-old brother, John H. Clapper of Tampico, Ill., a 94-year old sister, Mrs. Prudence Miller of 416 Fifty-eighth street, Eldorado, forty-nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Clapper followed farming virtually his entire lifetime, retiring only a few years ago, and also served as tax collector and a school director in Allegheny township for many years. He was a faithful member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren and served as a deacon in the church for more than thirty years. Friends are being received at the home of his son, Russell C. Clapper, 500 First avenue, Duncansville. ________ Edna Beryl (CLAPPER) LANGHAM Altoona Mirror Monday, January 6, 1997 Mrs. Edna Beryl Clapper Langham, 97, Morrisons Cove Home, Martinsburg, formerly of Cross Keys, McKee, and Downingtown, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 5, 1997, at the home. She was born Dec. 9, 1899, in Carson Valley, the daughter of Samuel R. and Mary Ellen (Hoover) Clapper. She married Charles Emory Langham March 25, 1920, in Cumberland, Md. He died Jan. 13, 1970. Mrs. Langham was a member of the Leamersville Church of the Brethren. She had worked at the Juniata Silk Mill and the former William F. Gable Co. and was a foster grandparent at the Cresson State School. Mrs. Langham was a member of the Saxton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a past member of the Duncansville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a den mother of Cub Pack 2 in Downingtown. Surviving are three sons: Melvin R. of Hookstown, Francis S. of Uniontown and Clair R. of West Chester; two daughters: Shirley L. of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Amy D. Chappelle of Roaring Spring; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Also raised in the home were Donna K. Beck of Hollidaysburg and Donald R. Detwiler of San Angelo, Texas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Isabelle Detwiler, June 21, 1943. (CLAPPER) WALTERS Altoona Mirror February 15, 1989 Mrs. Walters, 96, of 410 16th St., Duncansville, died at 10:20 p. m. Monday, Feb. 13, 1989, at her home. She was born Jan. 22, 1893, in Duncansville, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Ellen (Hoover) Clapper, and on June 19, 1912, married Eli Walters, who died Dec. 1 1973. Surviving are seven children: Gladys Kirkham, Naomi Young, Myla Helsel, Fred, Elda Mae, and Wilford of Duncansville and Dean A. of Bakers Summit; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and brother: Edna Langham and David B. of Hollidaysburg RD. Mrs. Walters was a member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren.
