Life-long Resident of City Succumbs After Illness of Nine Years Bernard Cochrane, aged 76, died at his home, 1614 Sixth avenue, at 2:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after an illness of nine years duration. Death was due to paralysis. Mr. Cochrane was born in County Lauth Dandock, Ireland, on August 6, 1843, the son of James and Catherine Cochrane. He came with his parents to this country when only two years of age, and had resided here ever since. He was educated in the schools of the city and later at St. Francis college, Loretta [sic]. As a young man he worked on the Old Portage railroad and for years was a gang foreman in the Pittsburg division roundhouse, now known as Engine house No. 3. In later years, and until his retirement in January, 1908, he worked in the airbrake shop. On April 7, 1873, he was married to Miss Mary Philips, the nuptial mass being celebrated at St. John's church by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Tuigg. Mr. Cochrane was a Democrat all his life, but while taking a spirited interest in all public affairs never aspired to office. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, the P.R.R. relief and the East Altoona Floral association. Surviving are the following children: John M., Mrs. Rose Rich and Mrs. Walter Larmer, of Altoona and William J., Anna, Kathryn and Margaret, all at home. He is also survived by three brothers, John, of St. Louis, and Peter and Thomas, of Chicago, and by sixteen grandchildren. The funeral will be held with solemn requiem mass at Sacred Heart church at 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning, followed by interment in St. John's cemetery. (Please omit flowers.)
