He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late George and Edna (Mackey) Conrad. He married Josephine L. Malone June 15, 1941. Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Josephine; two daughters: Janet Desko and husband George, of Latrobe and Sharon Lantzy and husband Dave, of Patton; a son, Bobby Conrad and wife, Mary, of St. Louis; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Lloyd and Joann Goddard, both of San Jose, California; a brother Robert Conrad of Altoona; and special caregiver Maureen McCormick. He was preceded in death by sisters: Helen Kehoe and Lillian Woodring; and brothers Edgar and Daniel Conrad. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad with 31 years of service. Mr. Conrad was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a staff sergeant during World War II. He was a tail gunner who served in the Aleutian Islands and flew 33 combat missions. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Star. Jake enjoyed restoring lamps and clocks. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 today, July 6 at Santella Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Committal with military honors will be held at Calvary Mausoleum. In memory of Jake. donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice. Altoona Mirror, July 6, 2007
