Mr. Conrad's health had been failing for several years and he had not left his home for more than a year and was bedfast since last July. He was born at East Freedom, the son of Henry and Catherine (Gates) Conrad, on July 14, 1851, and was united in marriage with Miss Catharine Feather at East Freedom and had he lived they would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in March, this year. Surviving are his wife and the following children: Mrs. Allen Lingenfelter of East Freedom, Mrs. Harry K. Butcher of Philadelphia, William H., Thomas A. and Charles R. Conrad, all of Altoona, Mrs. Gertrude Bingham, Frank W. Conrad and Miss Daisy P. Conrad, at home. Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Mrs. Andrew Fleisher of Altoona and W. Scott Conrad, well known Civil war veteran, of Huntingdon. Mr. Conrad was a member of Christ Second Lutheran church and had been a member of the I.O.O.F. for more than fifty years. Mr. Conrad, in his early life, was an iron worker, being employed as a puddler in rolling mills in Duncansville and other places, and later engaged in farming and still later, or in 1906, became proprietor of the East Freedom hotel, retiring and moving to this city in 1911. Since then he had been variously employed at carpenter and concrete work until failing health forced him to retire. Funeral services will be conducted at the home Friday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock in charge of his pastor, Rev. C. H. Hershey. Interment will be made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
