Cook, former sheriff of Blair county and well known in this community in Washington, D.C. this morning following a sudden heart attack. Mr. Cook, who resided for many years at 1118 Fifth avenue and more recently in Juniata gap, serving Blair county as sheriff for one term from 1930 to 1934 at the conclusion of eight years service as a clerk in the office of the county commissioners at Hollidaysburg. Before he accepted that employment in 1922, he had been an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad company from the age of 17, when he became an apprentice in the Twelfth street machine shop. He had twenty years service with the company when he resigned to enter the courthouse. A member of the Republican county committee for some years, he was prominent in political, civic and fraternal activities. At the time of his death he was attached to the National Art Galleries in Washington in a position he had held since January [1945]. Robert A. Cook was born in Altoona July 25, 1873, the son of William and Elizabeth (Hodge) Cook, both deceased. His wife Minnie (Harris) Cook survives, as do one son and three daughters, William R. of Juniata, Mrs. Selina Kay, Mrs. Martha Neher and Mrs. Viola McCartney, all of Altoona; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Lafferty of Richmond Hill, N.Y. and Mrs. Mary Kemmerling of Altoona; and seven grandchildren. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal church, of Logan lodge No. 490, F. and A. M. and the State Sheriff's association. The body will be brought to Altoona for funeral services and interment. Funeral services will be held at Hickey funeral home. Rev. John R. Leatherbury in charge.
