Corl, a county commissioner of Lawrence county and one of the most prominent residents of that county, died yesterday morning at 10:55 o'clock at his home in Elwood City, of a complication of diseases. The deceased was a native of Blair county, was the son of the late Jacob Corl of McKee's gap and was aged 64 years. He was born at Rodman Furnace between McKee and Roaring Spring, and spent a goodly portion of his life in this county. He was employed for some years as a clerk for Johnston & Hamphill of Rebecca Furnace, entering their employ about 1873 and later worked in the same capacity for the firm of B. M. Johnston & Co., of Hollidaysburg. He also clerked for a time in a company store at Gallitzin. Twenty years ago he went to Elwood City, where he engaged in the mercantile business, with Thomas F. Johnston, formerly of Hollidaysburg. Mr. Johnston retired from the firm some years later, when Mr. Corl conducted it alone for some time. After selling out he took employment with a Tube Manufacturing company. He is now serving a second term as county commissioner, being rated one of the best commissioners that ever served the county, which enviable record he has attained by his sterling qualities and ability. He has scores of friends in his native county by whom he was held in the highest esteem and who will be sorry to learn of his death. He was ever a useful and popular citizen and was a staunch Republican, but never aspired to office until going to Elwood City. Mr. Corl was also a prominent lodgeman, and was prominently identified with the Masons, Elks and various other orders. He is survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. George Bowers of Altoona, Mrs. Laura Sellers of Hollidaysburg, George Corl of Taylor township and Scott of Elwood City. The remains will be brought to Hollidaysburg for burial and will arrive today and taken to the residence of Harry Sellers on Front street where services will be held at a time to be announced later. Interment will be made at Roaring Spring.
