All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ ELEANOR GRACE CORNMESSER Miss Eleanor Grace Cornmesser, 90, A guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, formerly of 500 Stewart St., Bellwood, died Saturday morning, February 28. 2004 at the Manor. She was born Sept. 23, 1913 in Bellwood, a daughter of the late Harry C. and Judith (Henshey) Cornmesser. Miss Cornmesser is survived by; Margaret B. Baldridge of Tyrone, Ruth B. Baldridge of King of Prussia, Anne C. Baldridge of Denver, CO, Margaret B. McNitt, R. Cummins McNitt and Dudley B. McNitt, all of Tyrone. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary E. and Matilda H. Cornmesser. She was the last of her immediate family. Miss Cornmesser was a 1931 graduate of Bellwood High School. She attended the State Teachers College at Kutztown which is now known as Kutztown University. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. In 1945, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in library science at Drexel Institute of Technology which is today known as Drexel University. She was active in the organization and formation of the library at Asheville Farm School, now known as Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC. She served as librarian there from 1937 to 1939. She also served as librarian at Berwyn Junior/Senior High School from 1939 to 1947, Pottstown High School from 1947 to 1968 and was district supervisor of media services in the Pottstown School District from 1968 to 1976. Following her retirement, she returned to Bellwood in 1976 to reside at the family home with her sister Matilda. She was a member of the Logan's Valley Baptist Church, Bellwood where she was a former treasurer of the Deacon Fund and served on various church committees. She also served on the Bellwood-Antis Public Library Board and the Blair County Senior Services Board of Directors. Miss Cornmesser was a member of the Altoona Story League, Questors, Tyrone, the Blair Garden Club and the Cosmos Club. She enjoyed gardening and "loved to walk in freshly plowed fields in her bare feet." She also enjoyed reading, story telling, sewing, painting with water colors and spending time with family and friends. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 2 and 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., the time of the funeral service on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home with Pastor John Grove officiating. Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
