As mere words, however deftly combined are powerless to express the depth of mother-love so language is inadequate to covey the poignancy of bereavement when the cold hand of death is laid upon that revered one in whom the interests of the home are ever centered, the mother. The good influences that go out from the modest, self-effacing life of the devoted christian mother, cannot be measured in the concrete, but the community is bettered beyond its knowing in the gentle but far-reaching beneficence of that life. Such a a mother, such a true christian woman of inestimable good influence in this community, passed away at 12.40 this morning when Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan Cree died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Wallace Templeton on South Lincoln avenue. For the past two years; Mrs. Cree had been a patient sufferer from diseases incident to old age. She was submissive and patient until she peacefully sank into the sleep which knows not awakening in this world. Mrs. Cree was a daughter of the late Robert and Ann Cree early settlers of Huntingdon county. She was born in the above county, January 12, 1828 and was aged 87 years, 2 months and 11 days. On September 7, 1859, she was united in marriage at Orbisenia, to David Cree. He preceded her to the grave about five years ago. In 1881 she came to Tyrone and resided here ever since. Mrs. Cree was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Tyrone. Consistent membership in the Methodist church marked practically her entire life, for from early childhood she was devoted to it. She lived in the faith and passed away in the strength of the christian religion. To her immediate family she represented all that is embraced in the dearest, sweetest, best in the spoken thought “Mother”. To her friends and acquaintances, her noble self sacrificing devotion was an uplifting exemplication of the golden rule. Always cheerful, her happy disposition and keen interest in daily affairs of life kept her young despite her years. To her children her comforting presence was life’s greatest joy, and her all-consuming love for her dear ones makes the parting sad indeed. The fondest remembrance to linger with them will be of her who they are now called upon to lay at rest. Surviving to mourn her death are three children as follows: John Cree, of Altoona, James C. Cree and Mrs. A. Wallace Templeton. Funeral services will be conducted at the Templeton home on South Lincoln avenue on Friday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock by Rev. W. W. Hartman. Interment in Grand View cemetery. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 3.1 Kb
