Mrs. Mary Melinda Cree, a resident of Shawtown, near Loop Station, died on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, at the Nason sanitarium at Roaring Spring, of strangulation of the bowels, following an operation. She was taken suddenly ill on Wednesday and on Saturday it was learned that an operation was necessary and she was removed to the sanitarium for that purpose. Deceased was born at Mifflin, Juniata county, and was a daughter of Orin and Catherine Leech. She was aged about 60 years at the time of death. Her husband, John Cree, preceded her to the grave some years ago. Mrs. Cree was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a good wife and mother and held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. For the past several years she had resided at Shawtown with some of her children. She is survived by eight children, as follows: Jesse H., Cloyd, John E., Daniel R., at home; Harry and Samuel, of Huntingdon; Charles and Mrs. Rhoda Van Derweeler, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; also by three brothers - Elmer E., John G. and Irwin Leech, of Mifflin. The funeral services have not been arranged and will be announced later. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday Morning, February 5, 1917 Hollidaysburg. The remains for Mrs. Mary M. Cree, who died at the Nason hospital at Roaring Spring on Sunday morning, will be shipped from her home near Loop Station, after short funeral services by Funeral Director Thomas B.
