Joseph Cryder, who has been ailing with brain troubles for some weeks past, died at his home in Grazierville yesterday morning at 10.49 o'clock, aged 41 years, 6 months and 18 days. He was born in Sinking Valley on the 20th of September, 1849, at the old homestead on Elk run, and was united in marriage on the 10th day of June, 1875, to Miss Sarah Jane Markel, at Bellwood, by Rev. Swinden. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife and one child, a daughter, aged about 6 years; also three brothers and two sisters, viz, Henry, of the First National bank, Altoona; John, of Sinking Valley; Edward, of Cedar county, Iowa; Mrs. Martha, wife of Abram Fleck, of Sinking Valley; and Miss Frances, of Altoona; also two half-brothers and one half-sister, viz, Peter Cryder, of Pittsburgh; Mahlon and Miss S. Arabella Cryder, of this place. Mr. Cryder after attaining manhood devoted the greater portion of his time to teaching, in which he was very successful. He also filled many prominent positions politically in the several townships in which he resided with honor, fidelity and to his credit. In politics he was a republican, in religion a Christian and in membership a Baptist, of which he was a deacon and clerk of the sessions of the church in this town. He was active in religious affairs in the village in which he resided - maintaining a Sunday school and assisting largely in keeping up other church services. The remains will be brought to the Baptist church on Logan street in this place, where services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, to be conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. H. Fitzwilliam. Interment thereafter in Tyrone cemetery. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, April 9, 1891
