All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ AUSTRIAN QUARRYMAN SUCCUMBS TO INJURY Mike Cucic, of Ganister, Dies at Hospital - Skull Fractured, Never Rallied Mike Cucic, aged 32, an Austrian quarryman employed by the St. Clair Limestone company at Ganister, whose skull was fractured by a particle of rock thrown by a blast Monday morning, died at the Altoona hospital at 5:20 last evening. Cucic was admitted to the hospital, unconscious, Monday afternoon. The accident occurred at 9 a.m. The man never rallied. He was struck in the back of the head and the fracture was of the severe depressed type. No one had claimed the body up until late last night. Cucic had been in this country since before the war. He was married and leaves several brothers and sisters. The body will likely be taken to Williamsburg today for burial. Deputy Coroner C. C. Rothrock was apprised of the man's death and will decide today whether any inquest is necessary. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, January 16, 1919, page 12
