More than a score of years ago, when Bellwood was still not much more than a village, Miss Mary Daugherty and her mother took up their residence there and Miss Mary Daugherty opened the millinery store of M. Daugherty & Sister, who already had a store at Coalport, which remained in charge of Miss Fannie Daugherty. The business prospered in her hands and in course of time a cozy home and store on Main street became the location. During these years, Miss Daugherty made many friends and it was with regret that her failing health was noticed. Especially since the death of her aged mother, which occurred only a few years ago, she had been gradually growing weaker until on Sunday evening death claimed her. Pulmonary trouble was the immediate cause. She was a woman of exemplary Christian character and her death is greatly mourned. She was aged 62 years and is survived by two sisters, Misses Fanny and Margaret, and one brother, Michael, of Tyrone. The funeral took place this morning Mass was said at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic church, Bellwood, of which she was a devoted member, at 9 o'clock by Rev. Father Howard. The cortege arrived on the 10.15 car in Tyrone and interment was made in Oak Grove cemetery.
