ABEL DAVIS KILLED
HIT BY A TRAIN NEAR DUNCANSVILLE
He Was Dashed Down an Embankment.  His Body Fearfully Mangled and 
Bruised - He was 85 Years Old.

  Abel Davis, an aged resident of Duncansville and retired forgeman, 
while crossing the railroad at a point near his home at 6.40 o'clock 
last evening, was struck by the Williamsburg passenger train and almost 
instantly killed.
  Mr. Davis was 85 years old and by reason of the infirmities of age 
did not perceive the rapid approach of the train.  He had been calling 
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Webb, and was returning home 
at the time of the accident, carrying a bucket of milk.  He walked up 
the track embankment, intending to cross to the other side, where he 
resided in the Patrick Burk house, near Wilson R. Wertz's store.  He 
stepped upon the railroad immediately in front of the train and it was 
impossible for the engineer to ever check the speed.  He was caught up 
and dashed down the embankment, where he expired in a few minutes, 
never regaining consciousness.  The head and body were fearfully 
mangled and bruised.
  The deceased followed the employment of a forgeman at Allegheny 
Forge, in Allegheny township, for many years.  He leaves a wife and 
five children, viz: Abel, of Kentucky, Joshua, who is the 
superintendent of the National cemetery at Georgetown, District of 
Columbia; Charles, of New Castle; John and Mrs. Albert Webb, of 
Duncansville.  The funeral arrangements were not perfected last night.
