Davis, An aged and respected citizen of this place, closed his eyes on earthly scenes at 7:30 o'clock this morning, the cause of death being a complication of ailments resulting from exposure and injuries received during the war. Deceased was born in Adams county, on May 31, 1831, and was therefore, about 62 years of age. In 1851 he was united in marriage with Miss Catharine Crossman, by whom he had three children who still survive him. They are J. L. Davis and Mrs. Miriam Green, of this city, and Miss [sic] Alice Clapper, of Allegheny county. One sister, two step brothers and three grandchildren also mourn their loss. Mr. Davis served with distinction during the war, and at its close, in 1865, came to this city. His last occupation was that of a carpenter and builder. He was a member of Post 62, G.A.R., and of Mountain City lodge 173, I.O. of O.F., both of which will attend the funeral, which will proceed from his late home, at 2217 Seventh avenue, at 2 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. After the services at the church the interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Thus passes from our midst another honored veteran of the "war for the union," and a citizen who held a high place in the esteem and respect of the large circle of friends and acquaintances which he had formed during the years of his residence in this place.
