The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, April 29, 1874 DEATH OF E. W. DAVIS. - Mr. E. W. Davis, manager of the Altoona Rolling Mill, located near Allegheny Furnace, died very unexpectedly at his residence in this city on Friday last. He had been in delicate health for some time past, yet the members of his family did not realize that he was so near death's door, and in consequence the dread summons came to them with crushing force. Mr. Davis continued to exercise a personal supervision over the Rolling Mill until noon of the day immediately preceding his death, when he returned to his residence and died as stated. At the time of his death Mrs. Davis was on a visit to Pittsburgh, but had been summoned home by telegraph. She arrived at the depot here on the Philadelphia express train on Friday evening, at which time the sad intelligence of her husband's death was first conveyed to her. The body of the deceased, accompanied by the members of the family, friends and relatives, was taken to Pittsburgh on the Pacific express train on Saturday morning for interment. Mr. Davis is the second manager of the Altoona Rolling Mill who has died within the past year, both of whom were from Pittsburgh. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, April 30, 1874, page 3
