DAVIS A native of Duncansville and famous Civil war veteran and the last of the Union soldiers in West Hartford, Conn., where he had resided for more than a quarter of a century, died at his home there on Nov. 17. He was born in Duncansville on Dec. 13, 1843, hence would have been 95 on his next birthday. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ida Webb of Duncansville, and a number of nieces and nephews in Blair county. Mr. Davis had a long and eventful career with the Union army during the Civil war and had the distinction of being a guard at the funeral of President Lincoln. He was a close friend of President Theodore Roosevelt, having visited the late president at the White House on a number of occasions. During the reconstruction days, Mr. Davis was placed in charge of cemeteries in the south, where he associated with the confederates, for whom he had great respect. During his entire life Mr. Davis was a sincere believer in Memorial day and for many years was a speaker on that day in his home town and in other towns and cities.
