Mrs. Denny was born at Loretto, Cambria county, March 11, 1844, the daughter of Michael and Catherine Latturner. She became a resident of Altoona in 1864, and with the exception of a few years had lived here ever since. She was united in marriage to Mathias Denny in November 1858. To this union fourteen children were born, of whom six survive. The first children, a pair of twins have long since passed away. One of the sons, the Rev. Father Joseph Denny, of the archdiocese of Cincinnati, died eleven years ago. Another son, Michael Denny, who will be remembered by the older member of the congregation of St. John's as a solo singer in the choir, and who was engaged in the clothing business in Altoona, also preceded her to the grave. Twelve years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Denny celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, which relatives and friends made the occasion to gather together for a season of enjoyment and to pay honor to the aged couple. Owing to the state of Mrs. Denny's health the family was obliged to give up the idea of socially celebrating the 60th anniversary two years ago. Mrs. Denny enjoyed good health until a little more than three years ago, when she was attacked by a paralytic stroke the day following her attendance at the funeral services of her brother, the late John Latturner, of Munster, Cambria county. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church. She is survived by her husband, who is hale and hearty at 86 years of age, and the following children: J. B. Denny of Johnstown, W. C. Denny, at home, Mrs. P. W. Poet of Altoona, Edward I. of Cresson, Mrs. Lawrence Foose of Eldorado, and Mrs. Charles C. Stevens of Altoona.
