Tribute to the Beautiful Life of the Late Miss Julian Dern. Friends of the late Miss Julian Dern in the city of Hamburg, Germany, where the closing years of the lady's earthly life were passed, send the Tribune the following tribute to her memory. Miss Dern was the last surviving sister of the late Henry Clay Dern, so long the head of the Tribune: We who have known the departed, and who believe in him in whom she believed, do not to-day mourn as those without hope. Our spirit is rather one of thankfulness that she has been enabled to live so long and useful and beautiful a life; that its close has been so peaceful, and that she has left behind her so many gracious memories and fair hopes. Very often in her later years she spoke of the time when she lived nearby a certain church on earth, whose worship and fellowship she greatly prized. And to-day we take comfort In the assurance that she has already joined the church triumphant, among whose fellowship there were many loving hearts and familiar faces waiting to greet her and give her welcome home. By her unselfish and genial nature she easily inspired confidence and affection in others. And just as the Christian name passes between friends dear and familiar, so the name "auntie" came irresistibly from the lips of those who knew her, and was the name by which she was best known to very many. Truly for her in the evening time of her life there was light. The light which - shining from within - we have so often seen reflected in her kind face: the light of memory in which she lived over again the distant days that were once filled with glad service for others; the light in which she beheld once more the faces she had "loved long since, and lost awhile." We know that her declining years were made bright by those in whose affection she safely trusted, whose care for her was unceasing, and whose hearts made for her the atmosphere and reality of home. And now it only remains for us to cherish her memory, and follow the example of one whose life made its own gracious appeal to our hearts. And we lift up our voices in gratitude to him who has made such lives possible, and confess in life and in death the triumph of his grace. We bless Thee, for her every step In faithful following Thee; And for her good fight fought so well, And crowned with victory. We thank Thee that the wayworn sleeps The sleep in Jesus Christ: The purified and ransomed soul Hath entered into rest. We bless Thee, that her humble love Hath met with such regard: We bless Thee for her blessedness And for her rich reward.
