Devlan from Consumption Yesterday. Yesterday morning Arthur C. Devlan, a gentleman employed as inspector in Mr. Strattan's office, died very suddenly while engaged at his work. For a long time he has been a victim to the fell disease consumption, and yesterday while sitting at his desk had a hemorrhage which resulted fatally in less than ten minutes. Mr. Devlan lived with his wife at the corner of Eighth avenue and Twelfth street, and was one of the oldest employes of the railroad company. He came to Altoona from Reading in 1857, and was employed in the shops as a machinist. In time he rose to the position of foreman of the machine shop, and was afterward made general foreman, which position he held until its abolition in 1868. Because of ill health in 1862 he resigned as foreman of the machine shops, and after an interim of about two years he was appointed to the position of inspector in the office of Master Mechanic Strattan. The subject of this sketch was a gentleman who, though a quiet, was an effective agent for good in this community, and his loss will be severely felt. He leaves no children. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, from his late residence. He was a member of the Silver Grey Social Club, although under the age required of persons to join that organization. A meeting of the club has been called for this evening at 7 o'clock by Secretary H. Fettinger, to take action in regard to his decease. The members are requested to meet at the usual place.
