Dick, Prominent Man of Taylor Twp., Has Passed Away Harry C. Dick, esteemed resident and veteran retired teacher of Taylor township, died at his home south of Roaring Spring at 12:22 a.m. Saturday. His health had been failing for the past five years and much of this time he has been confined to his home. Mr. Dick taught for over forty years, all but eight terms being in Taylor township, where he was considered one of the best teachers of his time. He taught his first term in 1885, when John H. Lykens was superintendent of schools in the county. Three terms were taught in Illinois, and he retired in 1933 at the age of 65, owing to ill health. Although his schooling was not extensive, he was a well educated man. He was a son of Jacob C. and Frances Cowan Dick, and was born in Taylor township on Feb. 4, 1867. He was united in marriage with Miss Myrtle Slick on April 4, 1890, the ceremony being performed by Rev. A.E. Gibson. He was very active in civic and political affairs of the community in which he lived, serving at different times on the Republican county committee. He was a consistent member of the Lutheran church for nearly half a century, and a member of Woodbury Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Roaring Spring. Surviving are his wife and seven children: Benjamin F. Dick, of Bakers Summit; Mrs. Sarah Thompson of Plum Creek; John W. and Ivan Dick of near Beavertown; Mildred, wife of Richard Pressel of Woodbury, Melvin T. and Miss M. Arlene Dick at home. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock in the Lutheran church at Roaring Spring, in charge of the pastor, Rev. C.E. Naugle. Interment was made in Greenlawn cemetery. Dick, which was held in the Lutheran church at Roaring Spring Tuesday of last week, conducted by Rev. C.E. Naugle assisted by Rev. Aaron h. Stern. Pallbearers included Berger Ritchey, William Heuston, Clarence Lauer, A.D. Mingle, Clarence Ayers and Paul Martz, all of Roaring Spring.
