Brakeman Samuel Dill Caught Between Bumpers and Fatally Squeezed. While engaged in the act of making a chain coupling of two cars that were to the repair shop, last night at 7:20 o'clock, midway between ND and WN offices, in the lower yard, Brakeman Samuel Dill of East Altoona was fatally squeezed. A draft of cars was shifted against the two cars between which he was at work and when the crash came he was caught between the bumpers and his chest was crushed. While being brought to Fourth street to be taken to the hospital he died. The remains were removed to Undertaker Lafferty’s morgue. Dill was a member of the crew working with engine 1849, He is the third man to be killed on the railroad in this vicinity within twenty-four hours. Samuel J. Dill was a son of George Dill (deceased) and Mary Ellen Dill of Lewistown, was born at that place and was aged about 30 years. He had been railroading for the past several years, but had only been residing in Altoona and working in the yard the past four months. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief association. He is survived by his wife and three children. He is also survived by his mother , Mrs. Dill, of Lewistown, one brother J.W. Dill of Altoona, and two sisters, Mrs. Lillie May Ritter of Burnham and Mary Ellen at Lewistown.
