Sanford Dillen, one of the city's most respected citizens, died at his home, 1603 Fifth avenue, at noon yesterday of apoplexy. He had been in failing health for several years. Deceased was born at Buffalo Run, Centre county, March 31, 1826. He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Williamsburg in 1862. He removed to Altoona in 1877, joining the Chestnut Avenue Methodist Episcopal church, and has been a faithful member ever since. He was class leader in the church for about twenty years. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susan Dillen, and the following children: Stewart, of Jersey City; Frank, of New Castle; Harry and Charles, of Altoona; Homer, of Trenton, N.J., and Margaret, at home. He was a member of Mystic Castle No. 27, Ancient Order Knights of the Mystic Chain, and the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief. Funeral services will be held in the Church of God, Tuesday afternoon in charge of Revs. Schenck and Myers. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Monday, December 5, 1898
