DODSON A well known employe of the Pennsylvania railroad, long active in civic and political affairs of Blair county, died at the Mercy hospital at 10.50 o'clock this morning of a complication of diseases after an illness extending from April, 1928. Mr. Dodson was taken to the hospital Tuesday night, after having had a severe and acute attack of cramp. Deceased was born in Freedom township, a son of Jacob L. and Hannah (Ickes) Dodson, and grew to manhood on his father's farm and attended the country schools. Early in life he prepared himself for the profession of teaching and taught thirteen terms in the rural schools of the southern part of the county, farming as a side issue. In 1900 Mr. Dodson entered the employ of the Pennsylvania railroad in the Juniata machine shops, remaining there three years; he was then employed at Goodman's repair tracks for two years and later at Bennington's yards, being transferred to Hollidaysburg in 1906, remaining there until the shops closed when he was sent to the WJ repair tracks where he served as gang foreman until compelled to relinquish work on account of failing health. Deceased was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth M. Helsel at East Freedom. Mrs. Dodson preceded him in death June 8, 1928. Several children are dead. Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Walter F. Dodson, councilman in the Fifth ward of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Harry Brannen of Hollidaysburg and David, jr., and Ella, at home. There are seven grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Carns, T. Emory, Harry, Mrs. Laura Eichelberger, all of East Freedom; Mrs. Ella Weyandt of Claysburg, John and Alexander of Altoona. He was of the Lutheran faith. In his prime, Mr. Dodson manifested a lively interest in civic affairs and in politics, being an aspirant for office on a number of occasions during the period of his faith in the Socialist party. The time for the funeral, which will be held Monday, is not yet set. Burial will be made in the Lutheran cemetery at Newry. Dodson of 1509 Allegheny street, Hollidaysburg, who died yesterday morning, will be held at 2.30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home. Interment will be made in the Lutheran cemetery, Newry.
