William Doll, a worthy citizen of the First ward of this city, came to his death on Monday last in the following singular manner. He was employed at the lower shops of the railroad company, and soon after roll call in the morning was called away, but returning in a few minutes just as he was entering the yard the gate was blown shut with great violence, striking him on the forehead and knocking him backward to the ground with great force. He was taken up and carried into the nearest shop, and Drs. Gemmil & Fay immediately sent for. But their efforts were of no avail, and, although to his ---, he never rallied, and died about two o'clock in the afternoon. He was aged 35 or 36 years, and leaves a wife and one or two children. It is supposed that the wound that caused his death was received by the fall, as the back of his head struck the rail of the track leading into the yard.
