Duddy, age 82, a resident at Our Lady of the Alleghenies residence, Hollidaysburg, PA died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the residence. However, he lived all but one year of his life in New Jersey, residing in Tinton Falls, Middletown and Newark. For 57 years he was married to Mary M. "Bobbie" Naughton who preceded him in death in August 2006. Walter was a just and upright man, faithful to his God and Catholicism, whole-heartedly invested in his wife and children, caring toward his neighbor, and responsible in his citizenship. He served as a 1st Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during World War II, worked for New Jersey Bell Telephone companies for 41 years prior to his retirement, and was a decades-long member of the St. James Church Choir in Red Bank, NJ. He held memberships in the VFW, Telephone Workers Union of NJ #827 and Telephone Pioneers. Walter will be remembered for his sense of humor, easy-going nature, and the practical wisdom that enabled him to accept life's difficulties without complaint. He enjoyed children, music, scenic rides, desserts, the Yankees, history, geography, television comedies and westerns, and video poker in Atlantic City. Walter is survived by a daughter Sister Karen of the Carmelite Community of the Word serving at St. Matthew's Catholic Parish in Tyrone and sons Thomas (Mary), Joseph (Michelle), and Patrick (fianc‚ Paula); grandchildren Jacqueline (Peter) Esposito and Mary Kathleen, Thomas, and Theresa Duddy. He was the last of his immediate family, having been predeceased by parents Helen and Joseph Duddy and brothers Stanley, Joseph, and Robert. Visitations will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Ely Funeral Home, 3316 Route 33, Neptune, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune on Monday, September 24. Interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. Memorial donations may be made to Garvey Manor and OLAR, 128 Logan Boulevard, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Walter's family is grateful for the loving care he received from the doting staff as well as that which he received from the nurses and home health aides of the Home Nursing Association and of Seabrook Village.
