Durborow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Durborow, of 1010 Eighteenth avenue, and until a few years ago a resident of this city, died Monday morning in a Pittsburg hospital, as the result of terrible burns received when, on Sunday, he was the victim of a natural gas explosion that occurred at his rooming house in McKees Rocks. The young man resided at 819 Island avenue, McKees Rocks, where the explosion occurred about 8 o'clock Sunday morning, when he entered his room carrying a lighted match and igniting the gas that had escaped during his absence. His clothing was set afire and before members of the household could reach him he was so badly burned that his life was despaired of from the first. Howard William Durborow was born in Philadelphia, August 16, 1887, the son of Charles C. and Emma Durborow. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Mrs. F. M. Bingman, and a brother, Ralph C., both of this city. He had been employed the past seven years as a draftsman by the Pressed Steel car company, of McKees Rocks. The young man had visited his Altoona relatives during the holidays. The body was brought to this city last evening and the remains may be viewed between 7 and 8 o'clock this evening at the home of the parents, 1010 Eighteenth avenue. The funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and will be strictly private. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday Morning, January 24, 1917
