[sic] EABY IS DEAD AT ALLENTOWN Former Deputy Sheriff and Police Lieutenant Dies of Apoplexy Isaac N. Eaby, one of this city's well known residents and known throughout Blair county, died at the Allentown hospital yesterday afternoon of apoplexy with which he had been stricken several days ago. The news was received in the city last evening by relatives and will be learned with a feeling of sincere regret by his extensive circle of friends. Mr. Eaby had been in failing health for a period of a year or more and had been admitted to the hospital to undergo treatment in the hope that his health might be benefited. He was born at Compassville, Pa., on June 13, 1852, and was the son of George S. and Elizabeth Eaby, both deceased. He came to Altoona with his parents early in life. His father established himself in the tinning business on Eighth avenue and later engaged in the furnace business. The son for a number of years was associated with him until he was appointed deputy sheriff by the late Sheriff G. Thomas Bell. He served as a deputy during two of Mr. Bell's three terms in office. During Mayor Hoyer's last term in office he served as lieutenant of police, a position that he capably filled. On his retirement from that position he became one of the city assessors, retiring with the inauguration of the commission form of government. Since then he had lived a retired life. He was a prominent member of Altoona lodge No. 102, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was never married and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. S. M. Sellers, of this city, and Mrs. William Martin, of West Chester. The remains will be brought to this city, the funeral arrangements to be announced later.
