M. shabodeho@aol.com October 27, 2012, 2:02 pm Tyrone Herald 5/26/1892 Jeremiah H. Eckenrode 5/26/1892 Tyrone Herald Jeremiah II. Eckenrode, one of our oldest and most respected citizens passed away at 2.15 Monday afternoon, at his home on Pennsylvania avenue. The deceased was born on February 15,1821, in Adams county, Pa., and was married November 19, 1842, to Miss Barbara Kuntz, a native of Carrol county, Maryland, but a resident of Adams county at the time. Mr. and Mrs. Eckenrode came to Tyrone in the spring of 1864, and have been residents ever since. Mr. Eckenrode conducted the Eagle hotel, now the Empire, for a number of years, but about ten years ago, he retired from active life. The couple were blessed with seven daughters and one son, Four children are living and four have passed away. Those living are Mrs. H. H. Kline, of Middletown; Mrs. W. H. Daughenbaugh, Mrs. M. A. Bolinger, and Mrs. W. H. Bing, of Tyrone. The deceased was an earnest member of the Catholic church, and the services were held in St. Matthew's chapel Wednesday morning at nine o'clock. Interment took place in the Catholic cemetery. In the death of J. H. Eckenrode Tyrone loses an old and highly valued citizen, and one who has always taken an interest and pride in the welfare of our little city.
