As he could not swim he soon sunk to the bottom. He was seen by a couple of boys, who thought he was diving, but remaining under the water longer then they thought he should, they gave the alarm, when several of the furnace hands ran to his assistance, but by the time they raised his body the vital spark had fled. The deceased worked at the furnace and was only in this country about a year. His father is employed at Bennington coal mines and came to this country about two years ago. After saving enough ahead, he sent for his son to help to enable him to drocure [procure] the funds to bring the mother and four other children from England, for whom the father intended in a short time to semp [send]. Altogether it was a distressing occurrence. The young man was a member of the Methodist Church, and much respected by all who knew him. This accident should be a warning to boys not to bathe in this place. The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, June 26, 1872
