All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ DATELINE HOLLIDAYSBURG: John Holiday Elliott, the oldest citizen of Hollidaysburg and a pioneer settler of the town, died at 9:30 o'clock last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. J. Fay, on North Montgomery street, of diseases incident to his advanced years. He was a son of John and Mary Holiday Elliott and was born in Hollidaysburg, July 12, 1812, being at the time of his death in his 94th year. He was a lifelong resident of Hollidaysburg and during the early part of his life was one of the best known captains on the canal. Later he became engaged in the lumber , stone and sand business, which occupation he followed until a few years ago, when he retired. The deceased was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this place. He was married in 1846 to Mary Anne Crawford, who preceded him to the grave three years ago. He is survived by five daughters and one son - Mary, wife of John W. McFadden; Susan, wife of John T. Akers of Hollidaysburg; Alice, wife of Orville J. Fay of Hollidaysburg; Clyde, wife of Sterling J. Rhodes of Philadelphia; Lillian and Robert of Hollidaysburg; also by one sister, Miss Harriet of Hollidaysburg, and by one brother, Adam H. Elliott of Omaha, Neb. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery.
