Endress, aged 79, of 2626 Broad avenue, long actively associated with the business life of the city and a co-founder of the United Home Dressed Meat company, died at 11.52 o'clock last night in St. Francis hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. Mr. Endress was chairman of the board of directors of the United Home Dressed Meat company and the last surviving founder, Wade Mattern, Charles L. Salyards, Charles G. Mattas and Peter Gutwald having preceded him in death. Mr. Gutwald died a week ago today. Earlier Mr. Endress had been engaged in the retail meat business in the city, operating two Endress markets for some years. The present Endress market on Eleventh avenue still uses his name. He was born in the city May 13, 1869, a son of Zackary and Catherine (Durbin) Endress. His wife, Mrs. Sarah Ann (Laughlin) Endress, died Nov. 15, 1943. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Michael L. Auer, at the home, and one brother, Zac Endress of the city. Mr. Endress was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name society. Friends will be received at the N. A.
