All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ ZACH ENDRESS One of the oldest and best known citizens of this city, died suddenly at his home, 1101 Seventh avenue at 11:30 o'clock last night, of heart failure. His health had been on the decline for several years. Two weeks ago he was taken suddenly ill, but recovered sufficiently to attend to his duties. On Monday he went to Pittsburg and purchased cattle for his large business in this city. Yesterday he was in his east side shop, apparently much improved in health. He retired early, but about 10:45 o'clock was seized with severe pains around the heart. He arose and came down stairs where he seemed to grow worse, and in spite of all that could be done for him, he passed away at 11:30. Deceased was born in Germany seventy years ago. Early in life he learned the trade of a butcher, which occupation he had followed in this city for the past thirty-five years. At the time of his death he controlled in largest butchering business in Altoona. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was married in 1866 to Catharine Durbin, of Munster, Cambria county, who survives, wit seven children. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Mary's Catholic church at 9 o'clock Friday morning. The interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.
