One of Altoona's well known citizens died at his home, 1607 Fifth avenue, this morning at 6:30 o'clock of dropsy and a complication of diseases. Mr. Exline had been ailing since May and had been confined to his home about six weeks. The deceased was a well known veteran of the late war, having enlisted in September 6, 1861, with Captain Shelley's Co. G, 11th Pennsylvania cavalry which was assigned to Spear's brigade, Kantz's division of cavalry corps. He was promoted to corporal April 20, 1863. His regiment participated in the following hard fought battles: Fair Oaks, Petersburg, Staunton bridge, Beaver dam, Suffolk, Norfolk, City Point, Blackwater and a number of others, all of which were fought in Virginia between the years of 1860 and 1865. He was honorably discharged September 14, 1864, the expiration of his enlistment. He belonged to Post 468, G.A.R. Mr. Exline was born in Bedford county, May 4, 1839. He was married to Miss Eliza Tipton at Claysburg, October 6, 1864. One month later he came to this city to reside and had lived here ever since. He was employed for twelve years by John Hickey, deceased, as a cabinet maker. He then formed a partnership with J.S. Booth and M. H. Mackey in the planing mill business. He withdrew from the firm, which is now M.H. Mackey & Sons, and worked in the mill until his recent illness. He was a devout Christian, being a member of the Simpson Methodist church. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. George W. Hopkins of this city, Annie J., John E. and Laura C., at home. He is also survived by four brothers and six sisters. Funeral from the late residence Saturday afternoon. Services at the home at 2 o'clock by Rev. G. M. Hoke, pastor of the Simpson Methodist church; interment in Oak Ridge cemetery.
