Mrs. Farabaugh, the wife of Rudolph Farabaugh, butcher, living on Eighth avenue, was relived of a large multilocular ovarian tumor, weighing thirty-five pounds, yesterday morning. Dr. Washington L. Atlee, of Philadelphia, accompanied by his son, arrived in this city at five minutes to five o'clock yesterday morning, and at ten o'clock in the forenoon the two physicians - accompanied by Drs. Ross, Fay, W. M. Findley, Brehmen and Gamble, of this city; Clark, of Bell's Mills, and Thompson, of Spruce Creek - proceeded to the residence of Mrs. Farabaugh, and succeeded in removing the tumor. This is the three hundred and sixty-fifth operation of this kind that Dr. Atlee has performed. One of the sacs of the tumor weighed nine pounds, and about three galls of fluid were extracted from it. Mrs. Farabaugh was much emaciated. She was resting comfortably after the critical operation last evening. Dr. Atlee and son went to Philadelphia on the Day Express yesterday. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Thursday, February 21, 1878, page 4 MRS. FARABAUGH'S SITUATION. The removal of the ovarian tumor from Mrs. Rudolph Farabaugh on Wednesday by Dr. Washington L. Atlee, of Philadelphia, was the three hundred and seventy-sixth operation of the kind performed by that eminent practitioner, not the three hundred and sixty-fifth, as stated in the TRIBUNE yesterday. Mrs. Farabaugh rested pretty well during the night succeeding the operation, but she was not feeling quite so well yesterday. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Friday, February 22, 1878, page 3 DEATH OF MRS. FARABAUGH. Mrs. Rudolph Farabaugh, the lady from whom the immense ovarian tumor was removed on Wednesday morning, died at half-past one o'clock yesterday afternoon. While this result was expected by the physicians, it was not deemed advisable to make it public while the lady lived. Mrs. Farabaugh, however, was conscious of her situation, and recognized the fact that death was certain in a short time if the tumor were not removed, while she knew there was only a bare possibility of recovery if it were taken from her. She was very calm yesterday morning, and met her death later in the day in the same manner. Morning Tribune, Altoona, February 23, 1878, page 4 FUNERAL OF MRS. FARABAUGH. The funeral of Mrs. Rudolph Farabaugh, who died on Friday afternoon, took place from the German Catholic Church about two o'clock yesterday afternoon. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
