At 10 o'clock yesterday morning Sister Philomena, of St. John's convent, died of consumption in the 32nd year of her age. The deceased was born in Ireland in 1856 and she was known in the world as Miss Marie Farrel. Coming to this country in 1868, she, with her parents, made her home in Pittsburgh (South Side), until June 24, 1878, when she became a Sister of Charity and entered St. John's convent in this city. She had been ill for the past year or more, but being of strong will it was not until Friday last that she was forced to take her bed, through weakness incident to the disease. She bore her sufferings with fortitude and was ready when the end came. Her parents are still living and she also leaves one brother and three sisters. Her funeral will take place to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. The body will be taken into the church where solemn high mass will be celebrated. The interment will take place in the Sister's plat in St. John's cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, July 30, 1888
