Filer, proprietor of the Dutch Kitchen, and for many years a resident of Altoona, died suddenly at 5.15 o'clock yesterday afternoon after a few days' illness at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John E. Kiley of Philadelphia. She was the widow of Charles Filer, a veteran of the Pennsylvania Railroad company service who retired on Sept. 1, 1924, from the blacksmith shop after fifty-one years' employment. Mr. and Mrs. Filer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 12, 1931, and Mr. Filer died on Aug. 14, 1934. Mrs. Filer was born in Tipton on March 17, 1864, a daughter of Isaac and Sarah Burns. She was the mother of twelve children, nine of whom survive, Mrs. George Mannion and Mrs. J. O. Dibert of the city, Mrs. Kiley, Mrs. Charles Rock, Mrs. Frank Harmon, Mrs. Jesse Williams and Mrs. Irma Moffitt, all of Philadelphia, Charles [cut off line?] city. Nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother, Harry E. Burns of the city, also survive. Mrs. Filer was a member of St. James Lutheran church, the Altoona War Mothers, the Eastern Star, and the Ladies' auxiliary to the Altoona lodge of Elks. The body is being brought to Altoona and friends will be received at the N. A. Stevens mortuary after noon Wednesday. FILER - Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah A. Filer formerly of Altoona, who died in Philadelphia, at the home of her daughter, will be held at the Stevens memorial chapel, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. J. F. Flegler. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Friends are being received at the N. A. Stevens mortuary, 1421 Eighth avenue. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, September 15, 1942
