Williamsburg, February 20. - Matthew Flaig, an aged resident of Williamsburg, died Thursday morning at the East Penn hospital, Pittsburg, of emphysema. He was admitted for treatment December 21, after having previously undergone two operations at the Altoona hospital, and one at the Jefferson hospital, Philadelphia. He was born December 20, 1844, in Germany, coming to this country at the age of 18 years. Since that time he had severed connections with the land of his birth. In youth he was associated with the Schwab Woolen mills, a flourishing industry at Clover Creek during the '60s. Later he conducted a carpet weaving establishment at Williamsburg. Since the construction of the paper mill in 1905, he had been employed as shipping clerk until March 1918, when he gave up his work on account of ill health. In politics he was a Republican and a staunch supporter of the policies of the party. For twenty-five years he served as judge of elections at the Williamsburg polls, and was a director of the Farmers and Merchants National bank since it was organized in 1909. He was married in 1866 to Mrs. Rebecca Woodcock, who was Miss Kylor, and who died August 13, 1910. One brother, John, of Altoona, survives, as do these sons and daughters: Mrs. Harry Hamilton, Juniata; Mrs. Anna Baker, of Altoona; William J., Mrs. James Shell, Mrs. William Allender, John H., all of Williamsburg; Mrs. Elizabeth Bray and Samuel K., of Pittsburg, and Carrie, of Tyrone. The body will be brought to Williamsburg on the Friday evening train and taken to the home of his son, John H., on High street, where the funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
