On Sunday Harry Fleck, a son of Major Fleck, of Sinking valley, while climbing over a fence shot himself fatally. He had a pistol in a hip pocket, and as he alighted on the ground the weapon was thrown from his pocket to the earth and was discharged, the ball striking him in the back on the left side, passing close to the region of the heart, and then downward toward the thigh-bone. Dr. Piper, of Tyrone, was called and attended the young man. The ball still remains in his body. According to the statement of a school teacher, who boards at Major Fleck's house, Harry rose up from the ground after he was shot, apparently not knowing that he was injured. The school teacher who heard the report of the pistol, asked him if he was shot, and Harry replied that he was not and turned around three or four times in search of his pistol. Soon after, however, he felt that all was not right, and remarked, "I am shot!" He was then assisted to his father's house and medical aid summoned. He was still living at latest accounts, but his relatives, several of whom live at a distance, have been summoned." Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, September 21, 1880 Getting Better. Word was yesterday received in this city that Harry Fleck, the Sinking valley youth who shot himself on Sunday, was still alive and that there was some prospect of his recovering. The ball has not and cannot be removed. At the time the shot entered the boy's body he had his arms raised above his head and when he dropped them it closed the wound. The location of the ball cannot be discovered. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, September 22, 1880 CITY AND COUNTRY.
