Fletcher, 89, of 507 Pine St., Hollidaysburg, died at 9:32 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 1982, at Mercy Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr. Fletcher retired as a machinist in the Juniata Shops of the Pennsylvania railroad in September 1958, then worked for the Pennsylvania General Assembly until 1968. He was born Aug. 2, 1893, in Bedford County, the son of John C. and Leah (Klotz) Fletcher, and in 1925, in Annville, married Lillie M. Hughes. Surviving are his wife, two children: Charles S. Jr. of Bryan, Texas, and Mrs. Mary Esther Kitner of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: Mrs. Myra Dively in Florida, Mrs. Margaret Grissinger of Harrisburg and Eugene of Washington. Mr. Fletcher was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Hollidaysburg, where he had served as an elder, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was an Army veteran of World War I, serving with the 413th Telegraph Battalion in France. He was a member and past commander of the Lakemont American Legion and Barracks 1035, Veterans of World War 1; and a member of VFW Altoona. He was also a 58-year member of Free and Accepted Masons, Logan Lodge of Altoona, where he had served as steward; a 50-year member of Jaffa Shrine Temple, where he had been a past commander of Legion of Honor, and Williamsport Consistory; a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, where he served as Grand Tall Cedar, and of Hollidaysburg Borough Council, and he served as Second Ward committeeman for many years. He organized Troop No. 32 Boy Scouts of America, Hollidaysburg, and was a member of Scotch Valley Grange. Mr. Fletcher received a citation in 1973 for more than 1,500 hours of volunteer service to the VA Hospital, Altoona. He was a graduate of Westinghouse Technical Institute of Pittsburgh.
