Fluke died suddenly last evening while repairing the roof of his home at 1611 Seventh avenue. He had been in his usual health and engaged about his ordinary occupation up until the time of his death, which it is thought was the result of a stroke of apoplexy. Mr. Fluke was born near Woodbury, this county, February 11, 1829, and was therefore 65 years, 6 months and 20 day of age. He went to Hopewell, Bedford county, from his native place and was engaged there in the hotel business and agent for the Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad company. From Hopewell he removed to Saxton, where he engaged in general merchandising which he followed eight years, when he went to Alliance, O., and engaged in the insurance business. From that place he removed successively to Larned, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo, returning east and locating in Altoona in 1883. Since locating in this city he has been engaged in soliciting and in city directory work, thus becoming acquainted with almost everybody in the city and being universally esteemed because of his probity of character and ever courteous address. Mr. Fluke was a member of the Eighth Avenue Methodist Episcopal church ever since he has been a resident of the city and his daily life was such that his sincerity was never questioned. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and one son. One daughter died in 1878. Those who survive are: James D., of 1609 Seventh avenue; Mrs. Alice Blake, of Martinsburg; Mrs. George W. Price, of Huntingdon, and Mrs. Allan Eichelberger, of Hopewell, Bedford county. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but it will likely take place on Monday. The interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, September 1, 1894, page 1 Fairview Cemetery, Altoona, Pa. Fluke, Samuel S. 2/11/1829 - 8/31/1894
